Catching up...

I know it's been a while... but here's my update in pictures! Kahlua was my little K9 officer for a weekend, she even wore her military gear :) ha ha! She kept an eye out and let me know if there was anything exciting going on. Then when we got back to the office she made friends with another adorable little min pin who was being held prisoner in the back kennels. Unfortunately his parents never came looking for him, but he did go up for adoption!













Last week they began trusting me with guns! Well another officer and I had some target practice for the first time and we had a good time laughing at ourselves. Although I must say we did have a decent amount of darts land on our target. Practice, practice, practice!













Last but not least I had a little break down, well my truck did anyway, leaving me stranded for a couple hours. I had a feeling it was my starter (as I had reported that it was making a grinding noise whenever I started the truck), but they sent out an officer to try and jump the battery, which did not work. Then my supervisor met me and tried to jump my battery, still didn't work. After that he tinkered with the starter and got it to start! I just had to keep my fingers crossed that the truck would start again at my house in the morning so I could make it to work. It did and it went to the shop the next day and got a new expensive starter! Now it sounds so beautiful when it starts!

A rescue, some lovin', and adoptions...

I'll start with the adoption update! Sammie and Beethoven (the two fluffy puppies I had first) have been adopted by a loving family down the street. Alvin, the smallest one, has been adopted as well, but I still have him until just before Christmas because he is going to be a Christmas present! I think I scared the parents, their 14 year old girl has been asking for a dog, but they were thinking of a cat. I told them I had to wait 23 years for my first dog and now look at me! The two other girls are at the shelter and will hopefully be adopted soon. I stopped by Petsmart last Saturday and all 3 kitties were still there, but this time Kahlua and I got to go in the back and say "Hi!" I was kind of bummed that they were still there, but when I went back yesterday only Jack was there! 2 down, 1 more cat to go...

Okay, so now the rescue. I got a call this morning that there was an "aggressive" dog hanging out in a sink hole. When she had ran out of the hole to go after someone's dog, the dog owner heard puppies crying from the hole. He showed me where the dog was and you could see her and about 3 puppies, but she would not come out. The part where she was is circled in the picture. I tried luring her out with treats and even one of her own puppies, but she would not budge. I couldn't get a hold of her so unfortunately I had to sedate her to pull her out of the hole. I was able to get her out and then pulled out not 3, but 7 puppies! They didn't even have their eyes open yet. So cute!

And now the lovin'. Apparently dealing with the female dog this morning had me smelling pretty good. I went out for an "injured" dog that was running around just fine. He had no problems running away from me. I squatted down and threw him treats. Eventually I had him up next to me and sniffing me. He would even follow me around when I would walk, but if I tried to pet him or anything he would jump back and bark at me. I had almost given up and thought I was going to have to come back with a dog trap when he came up behind me and sniffed me some more. Next thing I know the dog jumped up and had his front paws on my back. I was able to maneuver enough to grab him and get a leash on him, but when I got him in the truck you could tell he was very excited. Then I was out at another house and this dog's nose was glued to my pants. He was so intrigued by the smells that he was drooling all over me. Then when I was trying to get some pictures he jumped up on me. I tried pushing him back with my leg and he wrapped his front paws around my leg. I couldn't shake him off and had to pry him off with my hands!

Only 9...

...animals in my house tonight. That’s one down from last week! I decided that 3 puppies are way better than only two since one of my neighbor’s has decided to adopt one and has been watching her quite a bit. That leaves a playmate for the remaining puppy. Then my 3 kitties got their surgeries on Monday, but stayed at my house until they were officially ready for adoption on Friday. They went straight to Petsmart into their adoption area. You can see them hanging out in the BIG kennel! They are the stars of the show there, as all the other cats get a little kennel. I’m surprised they were still there today, but hopefully they find great homes really soon! So after Friday I only had 7 animals in the house, but today I came home with not one, but 2 more puppies!! Another foster mommy was caring for them but it wasn’t working out with her animals so here I am, with 9. Some at work say that I am a glutton for punishment taking in all these animals, but I love it. It is surprisingly very quiet here despite all the animals running around. I’ve even opened my house up for adoptions. I think 3 of them may have homes. I’ll know more by the end of the week!

More Puppies!!!

I would say one of the best benefits of my job is that when you're having a "ruff" day you can go find a puppy somewhere and get a good puppy hug! Well that puppy hug got me into trouble on Friday as I ended up bringing two of them home! Pictured are Nala and Petunia (the darker one), who are 6 week old littermates. One of the other officers has been fostering their other sister as well. My kittens got big and are going in for their "surgery" tomorrow, but I am having a moral dilemma as far as the little orange one, Jake. I'm wishing I could keep him as he is a little snuggle bug with Zoey, but I know I can't have 3 cats and I feel weird re-homing Oscar.

Baby Got Adopted!!

...and hopefully they can come up with a better name for her! I guess it was the scrapbook I made for her that pushed the adopter over the edge. I can only hope that she will have an amazing home. Tonka got adopted as well last week, so I was very happy that those puppies all found loving homes too! I am hoping that my kitties can go back soon as I'm tired of cleaning up so much poop. It sounds like they will be lined up for their surgeries the week of Thanksgiving so hopefully they will get adopted quickly. Although I am sure they will, and don't worry, I have already spotted my next rescues! There are four chihuahua puppies that another officer and I picked up last Friday and I nicely let the adoption coordinator know that I would like them to go up front for adoption or go to my house until there is a spot up front. She said she should be able to get them up there on Monday :) I believe I have started a fostering trend at the shelter. I know of a few people that are now getting into fostering some of the animals now, which puts a big smile on my face. I look at Baby and all the kitties I have saved from euthanasia and it feels really good!

Here is a picture of me with my hands full! These are the little puppies I hope find great homes, they are definately mutts, but my favorite is the one standing on my arm. For some reason I have a thing for black dogs with white on their paws/chest. I have no idea why...

One down…kinda…

Baby is currently up for adoption and is on display at the shelter! I brought her in on Wednesday and someone looked at her that day, but I guess they weren’t the kind of people I’d want her going home with. Then a great family came in on Thursday and they were trying to decide between her and another dog. They said they would be back Friday morning. I had been busy all week making a scrapbook for Baby and got it done in time to show the family on Friday, but they never showed up. Oh well, the book is at the shelter now and it shows off all of the good tricks she knows. I really hope she gets adopted soon because I can really tell she hates it in the kennel. It’s hard to explain, but she isn’t her normal playful self in the kennel. Also, after our little walk last night she didn’t want to go back in. During the week I still bring her home at night, but I didn’t want her to miss a good chance of adoption today (Saturday) so she had to stay over the weekend. Although, I am on call so if I have to go to the shelter I’ll take her home till Monday. She is scheduled to get spayed on Wednesday so that she can go to Petsmart next Saturday!!! And that is per the director so I am happy that everyone is trying to find her a good home. Jack, Jill, and Jake were scheduled to be altered this last Wednesday, but then…ACHOO! They started sneezing last week. So they are on medicine now and should be good to go soon. It’s amazing at how big they have gotten. Also, Tonka is still available too! He is staying small and is super cute! Hope everyone had a safe and happy Halloween!
